In response to Canton Zug's increasing demand for infrastructure in the fields of geriatrics and nursing, the cantonal hospital site in Baar is being developed further and expanded as part of the "healthcare district" neighborhood plan. A total of five construction zones are designated, so as to supplement the healthcare infrastructures of the cantonal hospital Zuger Kantonsspital and the Baar Care Center.
The new Care Center II offers a total of 80 single-bed rooms for long-term geriatric care. The new building's defining element is its six-story central atrium with a 12-meter-tall tree. The first floor accommodates offices, an activation room, a quiet room and a large divisible multipurpose hall. One subarea is rented out to a crèche. On the basement floor, along the facade, additional healthcare services are offered by external tenants; the atrium is surrounded by rooms for meetings, instruction, therapy and podiatry, as well as for technical staff.
Synergies with the infrastructures and services provided by the existing care center and hospital are purposefully utilized. The selected materials and the interplay of colors give rise to a dialog between the two nursing homes. The courtyard between them ensures a friendly reception and invites people to linger.
For the residents, a home with a high standard of living is created. The structure of residents' daily life is oriented toward their own existing resources and individual self-determination. Every room faces either southeast, south or southwest. The rooms can be furnished individually; high-quality materials generate a friendly and cozy atmosphere. The modern infrastructure forms the basis for competent nursing and medical care.
