In Reinach, a suburb of Basel, a faceless industrial development – formerly the site of a tube factory – is being transformed into vibrant residential accommodation that seeks to offer a high quality of living for its residents in every respect. This project was designed to form a new neighbourhood component that connects with the surrounding neighbourhoods.
Burckhardt+Partner are creating eight apartment buildings comprising a total of 87 dwellings, aimed at people who attach great importance to their living environment – regardless of their stage of life or their lifestyle. The architecture of the various buildings is characterised by a versatile typology and a homogeneous, identity-defining design. Different floor plans, derived from the individual buildings’ specific situational qualities, cater to differing residential needs.
Particular attention has been paid to the design of the open spaces outdoors, where quiet spots in a charming garden landscape alternate with more lively places for getting together and interacting with others. Public paths and a neighbourhood square open the new area up to residents from other neighbourhoods.
