Research & Education
The work carried out in this institutional building focuses on the disciplines of geoscience and geodesy. The design deliberately breaks away from the dominant 19th-century buildings, thus creating a new charged environment between Erich Mendelsohn's Einstein Tower, the Great Refractor and the historical Geodetic Institute. The new building comprises two structural bodies: firstly the laboratory area and secondly the office wing. The latter orthogonally projects over the laboratories, which are embedded in the slope. With its oblong form, the office wing emphasizes the meridian plane that most of the science buildings are aligned with.
