The new ward block represents the fifth major construction phase of the Geneva Cantonal University Hospital (HUG) and completes the southern extension of the complex.
This new building, which aims to improve the operation and comfort of the hospital as a whole, is firmly integrated into the urban structure and will establish a renewed relationship between the hospital and the city. For instance, a second entrance area is created for the site by means of a public esplanade and a facade of a markedly urban nature.
The ward block is a compact, functional and economical project. This new building adds 14 efficient wards to the university hospital, providing a total of 196 two-bed rooms. The planning also integrates an extension of the intensive care ward (with 12 additional single rooms) and of the surgical unit (with six additional operating theaters) with more functional and more comfortable rooms.
